There are many options when considering embedding sustainability within designs. Solar panels, Wind turbines and heat pumps are often what we think of when looking for sustainability in our homes, however, there is much more to consider. Using a fabric first approach we can embed sustainability within the construction. This includes looking at the life cycle of the materials, improving the quality of the insulation and designing with solar gain or heat loss in mind. So, what does this look like within your home design? It can be as simple as increasing the size of the cavity in your external walls to allow for more insulation. Designing large windows to the East, so the property warms in the morning and maintains this heat throughout the day, whilst avoiding midday overheating. Alternatively, we have clients who are willing to only use local materials and would like their projects to run completely off grid!
